Put a tie around it

Martha Thompson

With the temperatures reaching the mid seventies this week, Spring is in the air (for at least this week) which gets me excited for all the Spring fashions. This week is all about the pant. One item that I've had my eye on are the tie waist pants.

I love this silouhette. It is causal with a refinement which means you can wear it around the house with your favorite sneaker or out of the house with a heel. For me another plus with my body type it has great masking qualities, i.e. smaller waist bigger bootie.

How to wear, I would suggest a tank top or a sleeveless t-shirt or an effortless white blouse. You don't want to overpower the pant or you. This J.O.A. Tie Pants in a silky twill shows exactly what I'm talking about. This khaki pant in this soft material can go from grabbing groceries to grabbing cocktails. For day pair with a tee(I love this one from THE GREAT) and for night throw on a jean jacket or this Vince Gathered Neck Satin Cami or a simple white blouse like this one from Vince.

This High Waisted Pant from Express in a pale pink is a great Spring piece as well. Did I mention it is majorly on sale, so if you are not ready to pay a lot for this trend then this would be a great starting point. Want another option? What about this beautiful yellow Tie Waisted Pant from Loft. If this pant doesn't get you in the mood for Spring, I don't know what will.

Finding a Likely Cocktail Dress

Martha Thompson
Screen Shot 2018-02-11 at 8.48.56 PM.png

Sorry for the lack of a post last week. I was cheering on my daughter's High School Dance Team in Orlando. They did great. All of the hard work they had put in for months really paid off and I was so glad I was there to see them perform. See the picture below.

But back to regular programming. The cocktail dress. With a few events coming up I was on the hunt. I found the most "Likely" cocktail dress. I love this brand. It is a great price point i.e. can buy more than one. The line has beautiful jewel tones and great lines. It comes to your knees and for those of us that are older that is a flattering length.

But a few thoughts. First it is mid weave stretch which means it is going to hold everything in but also means it may show lumps and bumps. Spanx is your friend. Second, you may need to go up a size. Don't get caught up in that; I've just found with a strong fabric sometimes it makes me feel better to size up.

I love this Hot pink Likely dress with the halter top or this strapless style in Navy or this one shoulder style in Raspberry . Here is another idea, you can totally take this from work to night. Wear a blazer during the day and simply remove and change your heels from a pump to a strappy sandal. This is a great multi purpose dress. Plus this would be a great Easter dress.

What's on my nightstand...

Martha Thompson
IMG_0013.JPG

So yes I may have a problem with a magazine addiction. I admit it. And my magazines run the gamut from In Touch to Food and Wine and everything in between. But this post is about my books by my bed and a few suggestions for this winter season.

The Wife Between Us

The Wife Between Us

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

If you liked Gone Girl or Girl on the Train you will love this book. It is one of those reads that before you know it, it's midnight and you are still reading. One divorcee and one fiance' and you got yourself a love triangle. But this isn't like an ordinary love triangle and with lots of twists and turns you'll be kept guessing to the end even when you think you know what is going to happen.

Hollywood has already bought rights; I just hope they don't screw it up.

The Story of Arthur Truluv: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg

The Story of Arthur Truluv: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg

The Story of Arthur Truluv: A Novel by Elizabeth Berg

This is really nice love story but not in the traditional sense. The three main characters, Arthur a widower, Lucille his elderly neighbor and Maddy, a lost teenager, have all lost someone they have loved. This beautiful story is about how the three of them find each other and a new purpose. This is one to pick up when you need a pick me up.

Bonfire by Krysten Ritter

Yes, that Krysten Ritter, star of Don't Trust The Bitch in Apartment 23 in her debut novel some with all suspense. Abby, bullied in high school returns to her small town as an environmental lawyer trying to solve the mystery why so many people are getting sick. Is it the big time corporation that employs the whole town or something else. The thing is that whatever it is, they don't want to be discovered and will do whatever it takes to not be found out.

A solid debut novel.

The Daniel Dilemma by Christ Hodges

The Daniel Dilemma by Christ Hodges

The Daniel Dilemma by Chris Hodges

I don't attend Church of the Highlands but their main campus is here in Birmingham and since I have a curiosity about all religions I decided to pick this up. Now this is not a quick read but it isn't meant to be. In our day and age, when it is all about the quick fix, this book helps center you with what really is important and how to ignore "the stuff".

My suggestion is to read in the morning when you may have a few minutes of quiet time. A great way to start your day and stay a little centered.

Cha Cha Cha Changing...

Martha Thompson
Screen Shot 2018-01-21 at 8.02.28 PM.png

My friends and family know that I'm pretty regimented when it comes to what I eat and how I exercise but as I am creeping towards 50, (that was hard to say out loud) I decided to shake things up. Let's face it as we get older, the body simply doesn't respond like it used to. As 2017 was coming to an end, I started noticing a little bit of a stomach pooch and knowing that I don't over eat and I exercise every day, I needed to shake things up.

So what did I do...I changed what I ate and how I exercise. Let me say this, I'm not a fan of any deprivation diets which is why you won't see me on any cleanse or Whole 30 band wagon. For me, if I deprive my body of something, then it simply wants it even more. Modification works best for me. That meant, for my diet, I cut down on sugar and carbohydrates and and increased my proteins. For my exercise, I substituted my usual routine at the YMCA for a couple of spin classes and I stared taking Three 15  classes which is 15 minutes of spin, 15 minutes of tone and 15 minutes of barre.

So... what happened? Well my stomach pooch has gone down. I've met some new friends in my exercise classes. Have I felt uncoordinated, you bet. Have there been times when I really wanted a bag of potato chips, Yep! But I've found these little changes have reenergized me because I'm trying new things, I'm getting out of my comfort zone and I'm learning something new.

For 2018, on the exercise front, I want to try more yoga and meditation. On the food front, I want to keep trying new dishes and to give myself a break if I splurge now and then. Bonus, it also means new exercise clothes such as these bottoms from Athleta and this top from Lululemon.

So wake up and shake it up!

Saleing through January...

Martha Thompson
Screen Shot 2018-01-15 at 4.57.20 PM.png

Midway through January and my eye has been on all the sales. Now with January sales you need to be careful. Are you buying it because it is on sale or do you really need it? Is there something in your closet that you have worn so many times that it needs to be replaced or is there something you have just been coveting so much that you just can't take it...then proceed forward. The other January sale item is an item that can be worn well into Spring. Here are a some items that I've found.

Theory:

Ribbed Cashmere Shell Turtleneck Was $295 now $88.50. This would be great to wear now under a blazer or as the weather gets warmer I would love this with some white jeans or even white shorts.

Satin Jumpsuit Was $495.00 now $148.50. You can wear this now with a chunky sweater over and later after you have your Spring Break tan.

Scoop neck T-Shirt Was $75.00 now $22.50. For those looking for a great white t-shirt, add this to your bag.

Round Neck Leather Jacket Was $1295.00 now $388.50. Have you been looking for a new leather jacket then this is it. A beautiful camel color. You can wear this now and into Spring nights. A great investment piece at a great price.

Veronica Beard:

Military Jacket Was $550.00 now $165.00. I love a short sleeve jacket. This one by Veronica Beard is no exception. A great layering piece and the detail gives it two thumbs up.

Sterling Dickey Blazer Was $645.00 now $294.00. Do you have a Veronica Beard blazer? No, then go now and buy this beautiful herringbone blazer in oatmeal. I find her blazers fit true to size. This is one of those items that you will be able to wear through February, maybe March but will last a lifetime.

Vince:

Boxy Cashmere Sweater Was $345.00 now $207.00. I love this blue color; would be a great item for Spring.

Cashmere Rib Crew Was $245.00 now $147.00. This is a great layering piece under a cardigan or maybe one of your new jackets that you've bought. You can also wear it by itself.

Satin Slip Dress Was $295.00 now $177.00. This is a great all season piece. Wear it now with a layering piece under neath like a turtleneck etc.... Can even wear a long cardigan over your dress. It has gotten warm? Then wear this dress with a little t-shirt underneath or just by itself.

Silk Shirred Drape Blouse Was $295.00 now $177.00. This beautiful Ivory blouse is another one of those items that is great for now and later. Also probably one of those items that you need to relish as well.

Quilted Bomber Was $485.00 now $194.00. This is another must buy. I love both the Navy and Olive and both can be worn now and later. To me this is a no brainer and one you need to add to your cart now. A turtleneck now and a t-shirt later. Black jeans now and a white jean skirt later.

Neiman Marcus:

Ramy Brook Blouse Was $345.00 now $165.00. I love this Ivory blouse with the gold embellishments. I can see wearing this with jeans, pants or even a skirt. Lots of versatility.

Rails Jean Shirt Was $188.50 Now $86.50. Do you need a Jean Shirt. I love Rails shirts. There are so soft and  this one by Rails with its nail head along the shoulders just takes it up a notch. Are you heading to the beach for Spring Break then you need a Jean Shirt.

Rag and Bone Side Zip Leather Skirt Was $1095.00 now $262.00. OMG, I've had my eye on this skirt for months. I can't believe it has come down in price so much. Call me fired up! Leather skirts can be worn all year round; pair with sock booties now and then a pair of wedges when sandal season hits.

Ok, I think I've filled up your shopping baskets enough. I may try and add a few more items especially since we just got the call...Schools closed tomorrow!

It's all about the Red

Martha Thompson
Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 7.45.42 PM.png

Tonight is the College Football Championship Game and whether you are a Go Dawg or a Roll Tide Roll fan it is all about the Red. So imagine my surprise when the weekend Wall Street Journal had an entire page devoted to Red. It is fate!

Y'all know I love a red lipstick but I honestly don't wear much red (even when I'm going to a football game) but the WSJ has opened my eyes to maybe more red.

I love this Black Halo Jackie O Belted Dress. I think a red dress is a great way to start a collection of red. Like a blue, so many shades of red are out there; you can go bold with a bright red or subtle like a crimson. Black Halo makes such classic dresses but can be jazzed up by switching up the belt with some bling like this one from Kate Spade. and a silver sandal. Do you want to wear it to work, simply add a black blazer like this one from Veronica Beard. A splurge but something you will wear for years to come.

So what about a pant. These pants from Ann Taylor Loft are on major sale. Again you can wear your black blazer for a more formal look or blouse in a fun color to mix and match if you are heading out for a night out.I love this silver Body Suir by Ronny Kobo Nofar but do you want to go a little more subtle then try this one shoulder blouse from Theory.

Not ready to go full out red, I hear you. Then try this beautiful sandal in Rudy Red from Rachel Zoe. Can wear it to work with a simple black dress or heading out then pair with blue jeans and a tailored blazer. Of course there is always a red lipstick...baby steps

Find of the Week

Dove Exfoliating Body Polish

Dove Exfoliating Body Polish

Do you ever go to Target with the intention of only buying one damn thing and $200.00 later you've left without getting the one thing you came to buy in the first place? Of course you have, it happens all the dang time! So this last week when I went with the intention of buying a contraption that would help me save my Christmas lights I saw this little jewel instead. Dove Pomegranate and Shea Butter Polish.

Here is what I love about it. First, you don't have to leave it on for a while. Who wants to stand in the shower for 20 minutes waiting for whatever magic to work? Second, you can use it everyday. Third, it is so light and fluffy. You simply take large scoops in your hand, slather all over your body and then wash off with whatever soap you want to use. Done!

With winter wrecking havoc on my skin I need all the help I can get and there is something about exfoliating the body to remove dull dry skin that just makes one feel like they accomplished something when they can't do anything else because it is frigid outside.

PS Nope I didn't find my Xmas light contraption.

It's Cocktail Time

Martha Thompson

Christmas Punch

Christmas Punch

Is it 5'oclock? Well I know that post is coming to you a little before the traditional cocktail hour but at Christmas time, my motto is it's 5'clock somewhere if you know what I mean. My friend Tracy shared this recipe with me and I find it works for a party or even a brunch. It isn't too heavy which this time of year is a nice break. You can find the recipe here.

Do you want to make it non alcoholic? I would substitute the liquors and the sparkling wine for orange juice, apple cider and ginger ale. With either version top with cranberries and orange slices and you have  festive drinks for a crowd.  What's fabulous is that with either one you can make ahead and take one thing off your list.

Merry Christmas

Game Day or Night

Martha Thompson
When you've had enough family togetherness...

When you've had enough family togetherness...

Each year I like to give you a few suggestions for games that can be played when we get tired of being on our electronic devices and need some human interaction.  Plus with the temperatures expected to drop drastically there may be a lot of together time. I'm giving you both Family Friendly and Adult Only. Please don't confuse the two even though that would make for some interesting dinner time conversation around the kitchen table.

What do you Meme? This is the hottest game right now and if you like Cards Against Humanity you will love this. It does require a little bit of a sick humor. This is not child friendly but one you and your adult friends will belly laugh.

School of Life Questions-Family Edition. If you've ever played the Tabletop conversations then this is very similar. I chose this because it can start good talks between adults and children. I love the questions. For example: "When did you know you were a grownup?" A. Still waiting. "Was there something that you used to not like but now you do?" A. Avocados  "If life was a class what would be your worst subject?" A. sitting still. You get the drift. This is a great way to connect in front of the fire or on a road trip. PS There are different versions including one on Love and Work.

Truth Bombs. Who doesn't love this cover. In January when it is cold and dreary there is nothing like gathering with friends and playing games. We have a group of friends that we get together with and do just that. And I think this game would be a fun addition. Your teens can also play this with their friends. I would not recommend that adults and teenagers play this together or you may may feel some aftershocks from the "bombs" that drop.

Reverse Charades. People are so clever. Another example of why didn't I think of that? Instead of one person acting out and then the team guess, a team acts out and one person guess. This is a great party game because it allows everyone, no matter the age, to participate.

The Voting Game. This is another game that may be added to our Game Night repertoire. But be warn, everyone must leave their feelings at the door. The idea is you draw a card and write anonymously whoever you think fits.  Here are a couple of examples: "Who resends a text when the person doesn't answer within 10 minutes? "Whose life would win Best Picture if it was turned into a film?" Are you game?

Dirty Words. The adult scrabble game. The words aren't dirty but your mind may be. So when it is just you and the spouse and you need a game that only requires two people give this one a look. The object is to come up with sentences in one minute using the words on the dice that you roll. Because our minds tend to go toward the gutter, you will be laughing for sure.

The Beauty of the Book

Martha Thompson

It's crunch time peeps. The countdown is real. I have a few more ideas for the hard to buy. A beautiful coffee table book is a wonderful gift and can be for all ages. They make a statement.

Tom Ford. Oh how Tom Ford has changed the Gucci label from stodgy to contemporary without losing any of its mystique. This book catalogs Ford's designs with Gucci and Yves St. Laurent. The book contains two hundred iconic images including some that have never been seen before. Just Beautiful!

Dior Catwalk. From the founding of the House of Dior in 1947 to present day with over 170 collections shown through the catwalk, this book is just amazing

Chanel. Over 150 Karl Lagerfield collections are shown in this beautifully illustrated book. The book not only contains beautiful photographs but provides a short biography of Lagerfield as well text about each collection.

Vogue Living. You know I couldn't not post a Vogue Book. This book contains over 400 photographs of the homes and gardens that have appeared in Vogue magazine. A beautiful resource of homes that we have drooled over while turning the pages of the magazine.

Best Beauty Gifts

Martha Thompson
The Gift of Beauty

The Gift of Beauty

Doesn't everyone love something that makes them feel good about themselves. A gift of beauty can do just that. These ideas are all over the board with price points so hopefully you can find something that a friend, mother, daughter or even yourself would like to find under the tree.

Jo Malone Shower Oil: I know this seems like a splurge but oh the smell! It is divine and this time of year of when our body is craving moisture this is a great gift. Cleans and softens the skin. Win Win!

Charlotte Tilbury Mascara: If you know me, then you know this is one of my favorite gifts to give and receive. Her mascara is the bomb. Seriously I love it. I don't know what makes it magical but my lashes just seem longer and fuller. Want to up the ante, add this Beauty Light Wand. A great way to brighten the eye area when we are feeling a little droopy. Would be a great Christmas gift that she can use for New Years Eve.

A Red Lipstick: Simple but something she may not buy herself. I love this one from Bobbi Brown. I've been wearing it when I'm going from work to an after work event and need to bring it. Something about a red lipstick makes you feel powerful.

A Night Time Body Moisturizer: At night I try and be good and slather on moisturizer but let's get real unless it is right by my bed it is probably not going to happen. This Alexander McQueen moisturizer has multiple purposes. First, it is a light airy feeling so I don't feel heavy and sticky; second, it is a slight fragrance and third, it is a really pretty container so can stay by my bed.

Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner: This is the Cadilac of Shampoo and Conditioner in the Aveda line. For someone that suffers from frizzy hair in the summer and flyaway in the winter this is a necessary splurge. What a nice gift to give for someone. And yes, I've linked the big bottles because lets go big or go home.

Baby Foot Peel: Surely you've done this before. If you have then you know how wonderful and gross it is as the same time. If you haven't then I insist that you buy one for yourself and a friend, mother, daughter right now. This is a miracle worker and what better way to celebrate than to sit down with a glass of wine while you sit and let the magic happen.

Gift Guide for the Teenage Girl

Martha Thompson
Teenage Girl Gift Guide

Teenage Girl Gift Guide

If you have a teenage daughter like mine then the Christmas list reads something like this: Clothes, Money and Jewelry. So go ahead and get those items. This list is for the little things you might want to put under the tree or in the stocking.

Disposable IPhone Battery Charger

Disposable IPhone Battery Charger

Disposable Phone Charger: Does your teenager claim she didn't get your call or your text because her phone died? This is the gift then. This is a three pack of one time use portable, lightweight, compact iPhone battery Charger. Compatible for iPhone 5 and above. No excuses now.

Fuji Film Instant Max Camera: Are we sensing a theme? My daughter has hinted at this one a few times enough for me to know that Santa needs to bring it. I think the pink one would be a great thought but check out all the colors. Fun and nostalgic you may find yourself wanting one too. PS It also comes with a selfie mirror.  PPS Don't forget the 2 AA batteries and film. No Christmas morning fail!

Lipstick Queen

Lipstick Queen

Lipstick Queen: This is simply a fun little gift which again brings me back to the 80's when we had these lipsticks that looked one color but would show up on your lips another.  Shades include: Mornin' Sunshine, Frog Prince, and Hello Sailor, an ultra-modern, navy lipstick that looks solid blue but goes on a flattering and sheer plum. Who can resist with names like that? A great stocking stuffer.

iRing Selfie Ring

iRing Selfie Ring

iRIng: Is your teenager the Selfie Queen? Has she dropped her phone a few times taking a selfie? Check out this little gem. You simply stick it to the back of your phone and hold onto the "ring" and never fear dropping while selfie-ing again.

Karaoke Bluetooth Microphone

Karaoke Bluetooth Microphone

Karaoke Bluetooth Microphone: Here is what I like about this gift. No bulky machine. You simply pair your bluetooth to your favorite device such as your phone, tv etc... and your sweet child will be singing along to her favorite T-Swift songs. I might even get a couple so when the friend comes over you can hear both of them or maybe Mom wants to take a crack at it. Good Holiday Fun!

Lighted Makeup Mirror: Does your teenager spend a lot of time in the bathroom? Do you feel like if you put a refrigerator and a tv you may never see her again? This may fall in that category which is why I intentionally found a small lighted mirror for your loved one. A classic by Conair, it is only 13" tall so maybe she will come out.

I hope some of these ideas help for elusive teenager. We have a little more time left and I have a few more ideas up my sleeve.

Graphic Sweaters

Martha Thompson

I love graphic sweaters. They are fun and a little kitschy, and this time of year when stress can be at an all time high some levity can help.

My thought is to choose a sweater in a neutral color such as gray, camel or black. Don’t try a funky color sweater with a logo. It doesn’t work. The one I'm wearing in the pictures is from last year from The Gap but don't worried I've given you lots of choices at different price points. Make bundling up fun! PS Check out the shoes. My favorite tennis shoes. Definitely a splurge but they bring a smile every time I put them on.

Gift Guides are Back

I love doing Gift Guides and I thought with a new logo and a new brand what better way to start. This first Gift Guide is really for anyone, from the man in your life, to your mom to even your teenager. Have fun and let me know what you think.

Bolt Thumb Drive. I love this idea and I can think of one, maybe two, people on my list that are going to get this gift. Do you know someone who continuously gets the message on their phone "Out of Storage"? The Bolt Thumb Drive is the answer. You simply plug into your phone and you can transfer your photos to your thumb drive, clearing up space.

Wireless Headphones. This gift is great for someone that has a newer phone and only has the old kind. The complaint I've heard about wireless ear buds are that they are too expensive but at less than $80.00 this would be a great gift for someone that likes the new tech.

Earbud Organizer. For someone that is not ready to go wireless but is carrying multiple earbuds in a pouch this is a great idea. Did I mention this organizer has a strap. Easy peasy to carry around multiple earbuds. Less than $10.00 so would make a great stocking stuffer.

Pixie Finder. Ok so this is very cool and definitely on my list for a certain family member. Here is a video on how it works. See it here. See it is really neat. Simply attach the pixie to whatever your loved one loses the most and download the app. You will be amazed.

Pocket Printer. Ok so my 15 year old loved the printer she got last year. Something about being able to print your pictures from your bedroom. This printer takes it a step further. Pocket size. Plus it comes in different sizes.

Well we are just getting started. Thanks for being patient as we start this new platform. Can't wait to enjoy this ride with you.

GIFT GUIDE

What to get them...

I love a good gadget. If I even think some gadget may make my life easier it is an easy sell. Make it look pretty and you might as well go ahead and grab my credit card because it is sold.

Y’all know I’m an exercise freak. I’m at the Y every morning at 5 when the doors open so I’ve got another head phone for you. These wireless headphones control your music and your phones with a tap on the ear. Urban Ears have come up with a wonderful way to listen to music and take calls without getting tangled up in a cord. Plus how pretty is the blue color. Not feeling the blue, Urban Ears comes in a rainbow of colors.

Plume Pods. Do you walk around your house and hit a dead Wi-Fi zone? That chaps my hide. The Plume Podis a an art deco inspired plug in that helps your Wi-Fi network adapt to where the real time activity is. It takes 2 minutes to set up and by getting one Plume Pod (that simply plugs into an outlet) for each room and there you go. Wi-Fi Heaven.

How many times are you running out the door and can’t find your #$%^* keys? And it only happens when it rains. Welcome to Orbit. Attach an Orbit to your key chain, download the free app and find your keys with your phone. Orbit will start to chime loudly. Can’t find your phone? Orbit works in reverse. Press the Orbitand your phone will start to ring even if your phone is on silent.

Plus how pretty is the blue color. Not feeling the blue, Urban Ears comes in a rainbow of colors.

Tired of losing a charge. Just snap this Rebecca Minkoff fringe charger onto your purse. With temperatures dropping into the twenties this weekend I had to post one more Rebecca Minkoff idea, the beanie with built in headphones. The pale pink is my favorite but you can find a color for any of your coats.

Polaroid Zip Mobile Printer. Last year I suggested a small photo cube which my daughter has loved and still loves to this day but as technology progresses things get smaller and faster. The Polaroid Zip Mobile Printerliterally fits into the palm of your hand. The Printer does not require ink, the paper is what creates the photo. Pairs with your phone to print your picture in just two minutes.

My Find of the Week

These MICHAEL Michael Kors Rabbit Fur shoes popped up on my Instagram feed and at first I passed them by but then I couldn’t resist and I had to go check them out. These shoes are on fire. They have sold out at several online retailers so I jumped on it. I love the charcoal gray color and the price point? $125.00. Um yes please!

I debated about the black  ones but then thought they looked too much like boudoir shoes and not something you would wear out. So charcoal gray it was.

They are so comfortable! While a shoe can be as cute as all get out, if I can only wear it for a few minutes without hobbling to find a chair, they will be sent back in a New York minute. Plus at a Christmas party when you seem to stand for hours comfort is key.

So how do I plan on wearing my heels. I’m thinking with my leather pants or a midi length skirt.   I will try them with black jeans but again I don’t want my feet to look like a Playboy bunny. These shoes are going to be a fun Holiday shoe as long as my husband doesn’t get any ideas if you know what I mean.

Splurge of Save

Adelaide Matte
Screenshot 2017-11-17 14.21.53.png

I’ve really wanted to make this a regular post for a while. Y’all know from last week’s post that I splurged on this Frame blazer which meant other items in my cart had to go back. But luckily my research has found some very good items that look like a “splurge”. All of my “save” items in the picture came from Banana Republic and in fact if you read my Frame post then you know my lesser cost leopard blazer came from Banana Republic as well.

This outfit with a few tweaks can take you from day to night. During the day, carry a larger handbag with a small hoop earring and in the evening add a statement earring and may be a red lipstick. Find links to all these pieces in Shop the Latest.

So I’m trying to decide which day of the week this post works best. Thoughts? I decided to run it on Friday this week just to help jump start the weekend but if there is another day just let me know. I”m happy to play around with it.

My Favorite Purchase for Fall

As I’ve gotten older, I find myself buying less items of clothing but more “special” items. This Frame blazergoes in that category. In August, I saw this blazer but just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. But after dreaming about it (literally) for two months I just couldn’t take it anymore and bought it.

Best purchase. Why? The fit is fabulous. It is narrow at the waist but not too tight in the arms. It can be worn at work over a black shift dress or on the weekend with jeans or on a special night with leather pants and a hot pink pump. Finally, it has that “wow” factor. I’m so glad I took the plunge even if it meant some other items in my cart got put back on the shelf.

Want a less pricey option. Here is this blazer  from Banana Republic.

Frose!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a cocktail recipe but since it has been hot as blazes, I thought it was time for a nice frozen concoction. Recently I went for drinks with some ladies from work and one in our group suggested a local watering hole that served, Frose…frozen Rose wine.

Was it 5 0’clock yet? We were out the door in a flash. The bar wouldn’t share their recipe only to say that they made it in their ice cream maker. Well not to be undeterred I went about  trying a few different recipes on a few willing guinea pigs (It wasn’t hard to find volunteers).

I like my wine, especially in the summer, on the sweet side so I tend to go for a sweeter rose.  So the first round was made in my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. I made two batches with different ingredients to see if one worked better than the other. Both were good but melted really quickly and took a really long time to freeze. Apparently alcohol is really hard to freeze.

But we are all about making life easier and to be honest after coming in from work who wants to wait an hour until the rose freezes. So here came round two and more guinea pigs. This time I simply took a bottle of Rose and poured into the blender and then added ice all the way to the top. Next I added simple syrup (probably about 1/4 of a cup but that depends on how sweet you want it) and gave it a blend. This one got rave reviews and plus it was a lot easier to make and just the right amount of “freeze”.

Pour in a wine glass and add a garnish and there you go…Frose, the perfect summer cocktail.

Frose Recipe:

1 bottle of Rose

Lots of ice

Simple syrup :(1 cup of sugar; 1 cup of water; heat over medium low heat until sugar dissolves. Once it dissolves, take off heat and allow to cool completely).

Blend together and serve in wine glasses. If the left over frose melts in the blender simply add a little more rose and a little more ice and another round of drinks will be ready in a flash.

Secret Girl Behavior

Rodan & Fields Eyelash Boost

Y’all remember the Sex and the City episode where Carrie and her friends shared their secret girl behavior; Carrie ate stacks of Ritz crackers while  reading Vogue; Charlotte examined her pores and Miranda lotioned up her hands, put on gloves and watched QVC. Well this post doesn’t go that far and honestly not sure why I’ve been reluctant to share but here goes.

Just a little background, I have thin eyebrows. Almost non existent and have struggled for years with what to do. I’ve used different kinds of pencil to fill them in and while it is helpful I can’t get past the idea that I feel like a clown. But even though my eyebrows are thin, I still have to maintain what is there and  Angela King,my wonderful eyebrow expert, suggested that I tint them. That helps but still wanted that elusive thick brow. So Angela and I were talking about this dilemma and she suggested Rodan and Fields Eyelash Boost.

I was intrigued, I thought the Rodan and Fields Eyelash Boost was only for the eyelashes but I had seen before and after pictures of customer’s eyelashes so knew it worked but how would it work on your eyebrows?

Well…I’m pleased to say it has really helped my eyebrows. I knew I was onto something when I went to my regularly scheduled eyebrow tinting and Angela asked if I wanted a little eyebrow maintenance? Did I need it? Yes she said and I was sold.

It takes about a month until you see the difference but you will. Simply swipe the boost over your eyebrows each night and watch for the results. I’ve linked where you can find it here on Amazon but I bet one your of your neighbors is a Rodan and Fields consultant and can hook you up.
